Or is it? Maruti has recently mentioned that they will not be upgrading engines in their 800 model to the Strict BS 4 emission regulations, which has ruled it out of sales in all major cities in India. Eventually they will stop production of 800 and will continue their ride with the current market leading model Alto.

Should Maruti stop making 800? Does the Indian market still need the "Once upon a time star". With Nano and the likes coming at around 600cc, I still think the Maruti 800 still has a role to play in our market. Although the many upmarket models have arrived and they are mainly targetted for urban use, Maruti 800 can still play a big market to a wider audience. Is maruti missing a point here. What do you feel about this?

Yes, Maruti should eventually stop manufacturing the legendary M 800, as gone are the days when we had poor roads and infrastructure has improved a lot now. Faster cars and more powerful engines that perform have a brighter future.
